For years, marketers have searched for the one metric that proves success.
IAB just released their updated of podcast measurement guidance points in a different direction. Success isn't a single customer response. It's many:

As Jeff Greenfield recently observed, "as cookies disappear, measurement has to become smarter about understanding the many ways customers engage with all the media touchpoints, not just whether they clicked".
That is exactly why the new podcast standards matter. They're no longer asking whether someone downloaded an episode.
They're asking how listeners engaged, whether they stayed, what they interacted with, how they returned, and ultimately whether those responses created value.
Even within a single marketing channel, we are seeing the industry acknowledge that customer response is multidimensional.
At Provalytics, that is the foundation of Agile Insights Modeling (AIM). Marketing doesn't create one response. It creates many:
- Multiple marketing investments.
- Multiple customer responses.
- Multiple business outcomes.
The opportunity is no longer to optimize for the loudest signal. It is to understand how different customer responses work together to create incremental business growth.
The more complete the picture of customer behavior, the better the investment decisions become.
Measurement is evolving from counting events to understanding the dynamic system of customer responses.
The future belongs to marketers who measure the whole conversation, not just the loudest reply.
Cheers
Todd
