It seems like many sophisticated AI ad tools stalling. Does the LinkedIn pivot to AI reveals hidden cracks in marketing's future?
AI-driven tools promised a revolution in ad targeting and Provalytics thinks there is an enormous upside, but some of our clients have suggested that their "lived experience" paints a different picture.
They cited a few reasons:
- Complexity in adaptive algorithms often leads to analysis paralysis
- Marketers face a learning curve that stymies swift adoption
However, the pivot here on LinkedIn highlights an unsettling paradox. Pushing further into AI while trimming marketing teams signals a shift and we are hearing the same question in different forms:
If AI alone could deliver, would we need fewer humans?
Clearly there are trade-offs. I have talked a lot recently about how creativity and nuanced strategy might suffer if we rely solely on AI.
Despite the buzz, proficiency in AI tools hasn't matched expectations on that front.
We see it in the recent trends:
- Amazon launched personalized AI video formats, but adoption is slow
- LinkedIn reduced marketing roles, betting heavily on AI getting pushback
The risk is an over-reliance on Ai can lead to campaigns that lack human touch and strategic alignment. Success isn’t about the tools alone. How we integrate them into a cohesive strategy is the key.
Hopefully this ties together closely my recent comments about the granularity of measurement and insights available to AI. We need to couple data with creativity to truly innovate. The key lies in blending tech with human insight—wisely.
Jeff Greenfield and I are trying to do that Provalytics. Please DM me with your experience because know the learning curve on this is steep.
Cheers
