The biggest measurement mistake in marketing isn't focusing on the wrong metric.
It's believing there is only one metric that matters.
The recent OpenAI push for ad format innovation struck me about how many companies still focus solely on driving more clicks.
Most measurement systems optimize for a single customer response: clicks, visits, conversions, sales, or installs. But customers don't respond to marketing in just one way. Every marketing investment creates multiple customer responses, each contributing differently to business outcomes.
Understanding those responses together is where better decisions begin.
This is the foundation of Agile Insights Modeling (AIM) at Provalytics. Rather than treating customer behavior as a single event, AIM measures how multiple marketing investments drive multiple customer responses and ultimately multiple business outcomes.
It also fills the gap between today's dominant approaches. Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) works top down. Multi-Touch Attribution (MTA) works bottom up. AIM provides the middle-out perspective, separating true incremental response from the organic behavior that would have happened anyway.
When you can distinguish incrementality from organic demand across every stage of the customer journey, you're no longer optimizing campaigns.
You're optimizing growth.
