Use ad breakdown data to sharpen creative, not replace it

In short Creative breakdown data works best as a way to test expectations and sharpen a story, not to deliver verdicts on an idea.

Meta's Ad Manager now has a "Breakdown" feature that shows performance for specific parts of your ads, Social Media Today reports, though it comes with some limits.

That's good news if you've ever defended a creative idea with a gut feeling.

The story and the numbers can finally sit in the same room.

Here's how I'd use it:

  • Treat each creative as a question, not a verdict
  • Write down what you expect to happen before you open the data
  • Read the results for what people leaned toward, then make the next version braver

The limits are real, so don't read too much into one breakdown. Use it to sharpen the story, not replace it.

Data doesn't take the magic out of creative work. It shows you where the magic landed.
